Fitness for Women

Women progress with the same principles; adjust loads around symptoms while keeping protein and recovery high.

Use progressive-overload, 1.6-2.2 g/kg protein, and adjust load/reps modestly if symptoms fluctuate across the cycle.

What is fitness for women?

Programming for women follows the same principles—progressive resistance, adequate Protein, and recovery—while considering menstrual cycle effects, bone health, and comfort.

How does it work?

Hormonal shifts can affect energy, sleep, and perceived effort. Some women perform better in mid-cycle and prefer deload/light days during high-symptom phases. Strength and hypertrophy responses remain similar when training is consistent and protein is adequate.

Practical application

Train 3-5x/week with compounds and accessories. If cramps/fatigue hit, lower load/reps or swap to accessories briefly, then resume progression. Prioritize calcium/vitamin D and impact work (jumps, loaded carries) for bone health as appropriate. Track symptoms to spot patterns and plan deloads. Use supportive clothing/equipment for comfort.

  • Consistency3-5 sessions with structured overload.
  • Cycle-awareFlex load/reps during high-symptom days; deload as needed.
  • Nutrition1.6-2.2 g/kg protein; support bone health (calcium/vitamin D).

Common mistakes

  • Assuming women need entirely different training; fundamentals are the same.
  • Ignoring symptom patterns and forcing max loads on rough days.
  • Under-eating protein and calories, impairing recovery.
