Hypertrophy
Muscle growth: how it works and how to optimize it.
The three pillars of hypertrophy: training stimulus, adequate Protein, and sufficient recovery. Miss one, and progress stalls.

Hypertrophy means muscle growth—the enlargement of your muscle fibers. This is what most people in the gym are training for.
How does it work?
- Training causes microscopic damage to muscle fibers
- Recovery + nutrition repairs and strengthens the fibers
- Repetition over time = larger muscles
Optimal training for hypertrophy
- Volume10-20 sets per muscle group per week.
- Intensity60-80% of 1RM (6-15 reps per set).
- FrequencyTrain each muscle 2x per week minimum.
- ProgressionApply Progressive Overload consistently.
Hypertrophy vs Strength
| Goal | Rep Range | Rest | |------|-----------|------| | Hypertrophy | 6-15 | 1-2 min | | Strength | 1-5 | 3-5 min |
You can combine both in your program.
Common mistakes
- Not enough volume - Most beginners do too little, not too much
- Neglecting nutrition - You can't build muscle in a caloric deficit
- Impatience - Visible results take 3-6 months minimum
