Beta-Alanine

Beta-alanine can aid high-rep/interval performance when dosed daily over weeks.

Take 3.2-6.4 g/day (split doses) for 4+ weeks to build carnosine; tingling (paresthesia) is normal and harmless.

What is beta-alanine?

Beta-alanine is an amino acid that raises muscle carnosine, buffering acidity in high-rep or interval work. It can improve performance in efforts lasting 30 seconds to several minutes.

How does it work?

By increasing carnosine, beta-alanine reduces hydrogen ion buildup, delaying fatigue in moderate-duration efforts. It’s most relevant for high-rep lifting density, intervals, and some sports. It does little for short max strength or very long endurance.

Practical application

Split doses (e.g., 1.6 g twice daily) to reduce tingles. Consistency matters more than timing; take with meals if preferred. Pair with adequate Creatine and carbs for broader performance support. If tingling is bothersome, use sustained-release products or smaller doses.

  • Dose3.2-6.4 g/day split; load for 4+ weeks.
  • TimingAny time; consistency over timing.
  • Use caseBest for high-rep density/intervals, less for pure 1RM strength.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting immediate effects; it needs weeks of dosing.
  • Using it to replace programming, carbs, or rest.
  • Stopping early, before carnosine builds.
