Citrulline

Citrulline can modestly aid pumps and repeated-effort quality when correctly dosed.

What is citrulline?

Citrulline (often as citrulline malate) supports nitric oxide production, potentially improving blood flow, pumps, and performance in repeated efforts.

How does it work?

Citrulline converts to arginine, raising nitric oxide. Better blood flow may enhance nutrient delivery and reduce perceived fatigue in multi-set work. Effects are modest but notable for some lifters, especially in higher- volume sessions.

Practical application

Dose 4-8 g L-citrulline (or 6-8 g malate) pre-workout with water. Pair with carbs and hydration. Avoid under-dosed proprietary blends. If GI upset occurs, start at 3-4 g and build. Works well in pump-focused or accessory blocks; less critical for low-rep heavy days.

  • Dose4-8 g L-citrulline or 6-8 g malate.
  • Timing30-60 min pre-lift.
  • PairingCombine with carbs/hydration; verify full label dosing.

Common mistakes

  • Using low-dose blends that miss effective ranges.
  • Expecting big strength boosts on 1RM work.
  • Ignoring hydration, which limits pump and performance benefits.
